Cold Perm
No heat · Best when wetUses room-temperature chemicals without heat — gentler on the hair and better suited for finer or more delicate textures. Produces tighter, defined curls that look most defined when wet.
Root Perm

C-Curl Perm
Round · Oval · HeartCreates a clean, intentional "C" shape at the ends — upper sections stay smooth and straight while the tips curve gently inward. Mimics a professional blowout look. Best for round, oval, and heart-shaped faces.
S-Curl Perm
Square · Rectangular · AngularCreates winding S-patterns down the hair with more defined movement and bounce than a C-curl. The flowing waves soften sharp jawlines and cheekbones. Best for square or rectangular faces.
Wavy Perm
Oval · Long · DiamondLooser, more continuous waves that often start closer to the roots — an effortless, beachy texture. The volume on the sides helps balance vertical length. Best for oval, long, or diamond faces.
Retro Perm
Most face shapesHigh-volume, springy curls with heavy layering for maximum bounce and shape. Modern retro perms lean into 70s wolf cut or shag texture. Works for most face shapes depending on how the layers frame the face.
Chic Perm

A perm styled to your face, not just your hair
At The Hive Salon, every perm begins with a consultation on your face shape, hair history, and how much maintenance you want at home. Perm style and curl type are chosen to complement your features — not just copied from a reference photo.
We do not perm hair that is not in a safe condition to handle the chemical process. If your hair needs a treatment first, we will tell you honestly — no pressure, no hard selling. Meet our stylists before you book.
Our Process
What happens at your perm appointment
Perm consultation
~15 minYour stylist assesses your hair condition, colour history, and desired result. We discuss perm type and style to find the right match for your face shape and lifestyle.
Haircut (if needed)
~30 minFor perms like retro or chic, layering before the perm is essential to the final shape. Your stylist will advise whether a cut before or after works best for your chosen style. Every Korean & Cold Perm service includes a complimentary cut, wash and blow to complete your look. Haircut is not included for Root Perm.
Chemical processing
20–40 minThe perm solution is applied and left to restructure the hair's bonds. Processing time varies by hair type and texture.
Rod setting
30–45 minHair is sectioned and wrapped around rods — the size and placement determine your curl pattern and style.
Neutralising
~20 minA neutraliser is applied to lock the new curl pattern in place and seal the hair structure.
Wash & blow-dry
~20 minIncluded in every perm service. Hair is washed and dried to reveal your final curl result.
Aftercare briefing
~5 minDo not wash for 48 hours. Keep hair down — no ties, clips, or headbands. Your stylist walks you through the full aftercare routine before you leave.
Total: approx 2.5–4 hours depending on perm type and hair length
Aftercare
How to maintain your perm
No washing for 48 hours
Avoid water, shampoo, and conditioner for at least 48 hours after your perm. Getting it wet before the bonds fully set can relax the pattern and flatten your curls.
Keep it down
Avoid hair ties, clips, headbands, or tucking your hair behind your ears immediately after your treatment. Pressure on the hair while it's still setting can leave permanent dents or straight patches.
Switch to curl-safe, sulphate-free products
Sulphate-free shampoos and moisture-rich conditioners formulated for curly or chemically treated hair preserve your curl pattern and keep natural oils intact.
Detangle only when wet
Never brush permed hair when dry — it causes instant frizz and breaks the curl pattern. Use a wide-tooth comb in the shower while your hair is coated in conditioner.
Deep condition weekly
Use a hair mask or deep conditioner weekly to restore elasticity and moisture. Apply leave-in conditioner while still damp and scrunch upward from ends to roots to encourage curl formation.
Avoid heat styling and chlorine
Skip flat irons and curling wands — your hair has already been through a chemical process and adding direct heat causes dryness and breakage. Before swimming, wet hair with tap water and apply leave-in conditioner as a chlorine barrier.
