Rebonding Aftercare: What To Do After Your Treatment

Jul 1, 2026 · 4 min read

Rebonding at The Hive Salon Singapore

You've just had your rebonding done. The first 48 hours are the most critical — what you do immediately after your treatment determines how long your results last and how healthy your hair stays.

Here's exactly what your stylist at The Hive Salon will tell you before you leave.

The First 48 Hours — What Not To Do

Do not wash your hair for 48 hours

This is the most important rule. Water disrupts the bonding process while it is still setting. Washing too soon — even just rinsing — can cause your rebonding to relax unevenly or lose its smoothness prematurely.

Wait the full 48 hours before your first wash, no exceptions.

Do not tie up your hair

Avoid hair ties, clips, bands, pins, or anything that puts pressure on your hair in the first 48 hours. While the bonds are still setting, any compression or bending leaves a mark — and that mark becomes permanent once the bonds fully set.

Sleep with your hair loose and flat. If you tend to move around in your sleep, a silk pillowcase helps reduce friction and keeps your hair lying smooth.

Avoid getting caught in the rain

Singapore's weather is unpredictable. If you're stepping out in the first 48 hours, bring an umbrella. Even light rain on freshly rebonded hair can affect your result.

After 48 Hours — Long-Term Aftercare

Switch to sulphate-free shampoo

Sulphates are the cleansing agents in most commercial shampoos — they're effective but aggressive. They strip the treated bonds in rebonded hair faster than anything else.

Switching to a sulphate-free shampoo is the single most impactful thing you can do to extend the life of your rebonding. Look for shampoos labelled sulphate-free or SLS-free.

Avoid heat styling for 2 weeks

Give your hair two full weeks before using straighteners or curling tools. Your rebonding already gives you smooth, frizz-free hair — you shouldn't need heat tools in the immediate aftermath anyway.

After two weeks, if you do use heat tools, always apply a heat protectant first.

Use a lightweight leave-in conditioner

A lightweight leave-in conditioner helps maintain smoothness and manageability between washes — especially in Singapore's humidity. Apply to mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the roots.

Protect from UV

Singapore's sun fades and dries treated hair faster than most climates. A UV-protecting hair mist or leave-in spray helps preserve your rebonding results when you're spending time outdoors.

How Long Do Results Last?

With proper aftercare, soft rebonding and volume rebonding results typically last 6–12 months. The variance depends on your natural hair growth rate, how quickly your roots grow out, and how consistently you follow aftercare.

Singapore's humidity is a factor — clients who are consistent with sulphate-free shampoo and avoid excessive heat styling generally see results closer to the 12-month end.

When To Come Back

Most clients return for a rebonding touch-up when 3–4 inches of new growth is visible at the roots. This is typically every 4–6 months depending on how fast your hair grows.

At The Hive Salon, we assess your hair condition at every appointment before proceeding. If your hair needs a treatment before your next rebonding, we'll tell you honestly — no pressure, no hard selling.
