What to expect
Colour that works with your hair, not against it
At The Hive Salon, low-ammonia colour is our standard — not an upgrade you pay extra for. We use organic colour formulated with nourishing botanical extracts for warm tones and Milbon colour for cool tones, both chosen for their low odour and gentle formulas. Every colour appointment begins with a full consultation on your hair condition and colour history.
We do not recommend treatments your hair cannot safely handle. If your hair needs time to recover before a colour, we will tell you — and suggest a treatment plan instead. No hard selling, no shortcuts. Meet our stylists before you book.

What happens at your colour appointment
Colour consultation
~15 minYour stylist assesses your hair condition, colour history, and desired result. We recommend only what your hair can safely handle.
Colour selection
~10 minWarm or cool tone? Single shade or multi-dimensional? Your stylist guides you to the right formula and technique for your skin tone.
Application
30–45 minColour is mixed fresh for each client and applied section by section for even, consistent coverage.
Processing
30–45 minProcessing time varies by service and hair condition. Your stylist monitors throughout — no leaving you unattended.
Wash & blow-dry
~20 minIncluded in every colour service. Your hair is washed with colour-safe products to seal and protect.
Home care tips
~5 minYour stylist recommends how to maintain your colour at home — from wash frequency to products that protect vibrancy.

Aftercare
How to maintain your colour
Switch to sulphate-free shampoo
Sulphates strip colour faster than anything else — switching to a sulphate-free shampoo is the single biggest thing you can do to extend your colour vibrancy.
Wash with cool or lukewarm water
Hot water opens the hair cuticle and causes colour to leach out faster. Cool or lukewarm water keeps the cuticle closed and the colour locked in.
Avoid heat styling for a few days
Give your colour 48–72 hours before using straighteners or curling tools — especially after bleach or highlights, where the cuticle is more open.
Protect from UV when outdoors
Singapore's sun fades colour faster than most climates — particularly warm tones, lightened hair, or balayage. A UV-protecting hair mist or leave-in conditioner helps maintain vibrancy.
Book a roots retouch at 6–8 weeks
Colour grows out visibly faster in Singapore's humidity. Most clients doing roots retouch come back at 6–8 weeks to maintain a clean result.
